Egypt’s Minister of Planning Hala Saeed was honored among Arab sustainability pioneers during a ceremony held on the Arab Sustainability Day.
Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Abul Gheit attended the honoring ceremony at the Arab League general secretariat HQ.
The ceremony was held in appreciation of the key role played by these figures in realizing development in various domains.
President of the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT) Dr. Ismail Abdel Ghaffar was also among the honored figures alongside Bahrain’s Undersecretary of the Cabinet Affairs Ministry and Honorary President of the Good Word Society Shaikh Isa bin Ali bin Khalifa Al Khalifa.
Princess Reema bint Bandar Al Saud, the Saudi Arabian Ambassador to the US, and Princess AlJohara Bint Talal Bin Abdulaziz AlSaud were also honored for their efforts in serving community and promoting the sustainable development goals.
Chairman of the UAE’s Municipality and Planning Department of Ajman Sheikh Rashid bin Humaid Al Nuaimi was also honored alongside with Chairman of the International Center for Sport Security (ICSS) Mohammed Al Hanzab, who is also Vice-President of the Sport Integrity Global Alliance (SIGA).
During the ceremony marking the day, Arab League (AL ) Secretary General Ahmed Abul Gheit said sustainable development with its economic, social and environment dimensions largely contributes to drawing up policies aiming at realizing prosperity while protecting the planet for future generations.
The AL chief said the pan-Arab body works on achieving Arab development in its comprehensive perspective, thus integrating the sustainability dimension in all its climate-related activities.
The Arab League has spearheaded several initiatives and strategies on this score, in cooperation with international partners, he highlighted.
The AL is deeply interested in crystalizing an Arab vision for a more sustainable future, Abul Gheit said, highlighting the issue of financing which hamper attaining the aspired sustainable development goals.
