Microsoft, Aker Solutions team up to accelerate carbon capture projects

Microsoft and Aker Solutions have signed an agreement to support the development and execution of carbon capture and storage (CCS) and carbon dioxide removal (CDR) projects globally.

Under the agreement, Aker Solutions will work with project developers, emitters, transport and storage providers, industry stakeholders and governments to advance projects, reduce execution risks and strengthen investment readiness, including through potential CDR credits.

Combining digital, engineering expertise:

The collaboration brings together Microsoft’s expertise in digital technologies, data, artificial intelligence (AI), monitoring, reporting and verification (MRV), and carbon markets with Aker Solutions’ techno-economic advisory services and end-to-end engineering, procurement and construction capabilities.

As selected CCS and CDR projects move toward final investment decisions (FID), the companies will provide integrated engineering and execution support, giving developers a single pathway from early-stage feasibility studies through to operations.

Supporting projects from concept to execution:

Microsoft targets carbon-negative operations:

Microsoft has pledged to become carbon negative by 2030 and remove its historical emissions by 2050. As part of these efforts, the company has helped scale the durable carbon dioxide removal market through long-term purchasing agreements and by sharing its experience and learnings.
