PCAF taps PwC to help financial institutions track GHG emissions
By Marwa Nassar - -

The Partnership for Carbon Accounting Financials (PCAF) has named PwC its newest Global Accredited Partner, strengthening the firm’s role in helping financial institutions measure and disclose greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions linked to their financial activities.

Under the partnership, PwC will support financial institutions in applying the PCAF Standard, which provides a framework for measuring and reporting emissions associated with financial activities.

Financial institutions face growing disclosure demands:

The partnership comes as financial institutions face increasing expectations around Scope 3 emissions and climate-related reporting, including requirements under the International Sustainability Standards Board’s (ISSB) IFRS S2 climate-related disclosures and the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD).

As organizations move beyond initial emissions measurement, the focus is increasingly shifting toward implementation, governance, process automation, and assurance-ready reporting.

PwC’s support will cover emissions baselining, calculation engine development and automation, data governance, AI-enabled data management, target-setting, disclosure readiness, and independent assurance.

The partnership also positions the PCAF Standard as part of a broader approach to risk management, decision-making, and sustainability strategy.

PwC to support portfolio emissions measurement:

Lynne Baber, Global Sustainability Leader at PwC, said: “PwC’s role as a PCAF Global Accredited Partner reinforces our commitment to helping financial institutions measure and manage emissions associated with financial activities in a credible, consistent, and decision-useful manner.”

“Through our work in the measurement of emissions associated with financial activities, risk management, and assurance readiness, we help clients establish reliable data inputs, translate analysis into insights and identify actions that can inform portfolio management, climate strategy and operating model decisions,” she added.

PCAF expands accredited partner network:

Bart van Lunteren, Accredited Partner Lead at PCAF, said financial institutions are increasingly seeking greater quality, consistency, and transparency in emissions accounting across their portfolios.

“PwC brings extensive experience across measurement, data governance, reporting, and assurance, which will help financial institutions implement the PCAF Standard and advance high-quality GHG accounting and disclosure practices,” he said.

PCAF’s Accredited Partner Program is designed for third-party companies, including consultancies, data providers, and software firms, that support financial institutions using the PCAF Standard.

Through the program, Accredited Partners and PCAF work together to help financial institutions measure and disclose emissions associated with financial activities and advance consistent, comparable, and high-quality GHG disclosures.
