The Egyptian cabinet’s Information and Decision Support Center (IDSC) was among the top eight African states on the 2022 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Index.
Egypt ranked the 87th on the index which included 193 world countries, thus bouncing 19 spots.
This came in the 5th edition of the IDSC’s report under the theme of “Egypt in the world’s eyes in 2022.”
According to the Sustainable Development Report, Egypt’s 2022 SDG index scored 68.7, positioning the country above regional average, a step forward compared to the 2021 results.
The Sustainable Development Report is a global assessment of countries’ progress towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. It is a complement to the official SDG indicators and the voluntary national reviews.
This global assessment indicates that Egypt is showing positive progress especially in SDG 6, SDG 10, SDG 12, and SDG 13.
Countries are ranked by their overall score. The overall score measures the total progress towards achieving all 17 SDGs. The score can be interpreted as a percentage of SDG achievement. A score of 100 indicates that all SDGs have been achieved.
The IDSC report also noted that Egypt advanced for the third consecutive year by seven ranks on the 2022 Global Soft Power Index (GSPI) and became among the top countries witnessing a remarkable improvement.
In 2021, Egypt occupied the 38th place on the 100-country list measuring soft power strength.
The GSPI index assesses soft power based on seven focuses that are measured through a global public opinion survey and experts in 105 countries.
The concept of soft power is used to describe the capability of states to influence or be influenced by other states, without resorting to traditional power tools, which are the military and the economic ones.
Egypt’s advancement on various global indices falls within the framework of its commitment to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.
