Vodafone Foundation has pledged €30,000 to Save the Children in response to the devastation caused by Cyclone Chido in Mozambique.

The donation will bolster Save the Children’s emergency relief efforts to provide critical support to thousands of children and families affected by the cyclone.

In addition to the donation to Save the Children, the Vodacom Foundation in Mozambique is actively contributing to relief efforts. They are working closely with humanitarian organizations and local authorities to provide vital support and on-the-ground assistance to communities in need.

As part of this response, the Vodacom Foundation has started to deliver a donation of 35 ton of food and basic supplies to the National Institute of Risk and Disaster Management (INGD), the government institution responsible for coordinating the disaster response.

“We are deeply committed to supporting the communities affected by Cyclone Chido,” said Lisa Felton, Director of Vodafone Foundation. “Children are among the most vulnerable during crises like this, and through our partnership with Save the Children and the efforts of our local foundation in Mozambique, we hope to make a meaningful difference in their recovery.”

Vodafone Foundation are supporting Save the Children’s Emergency Fund, which enables the charity to respond immediately when a disaster strikes. In Mozambique Save the Children is delivering life-saving aid, including survival kits, water purification tablets and food, and helping to protect children from harm.

Funds will also go towards setting up temporary learning centres while schools are closed, ensuring children can get back to learning as soon as possible. Vodacom Foundation Mozambique has arranged to remove the commission from payment transactions to families receiving donations from Save the Children.

Save the Children expressed gratitude for the timely support: “This generous contribution comes at a crucial moment as we work to address the urgent needs of those affected by Cyclone Chido,” said Ilaria Manunza, Save the Children’s Country Director in Mozambique. “Their support will help us reach more vulnerable children and families in Northern Mozambique, who have had their lives torn apart.”

Cyclone Chido made landfall on 15 December, causing widespread flooding, severe damage to infrastructure, and displacing thousands of families. Humanitarian organizations continue to assess the extent of the damage and support communities in affected regions.

The Vodafone Foundation has a long-standing history of supporting disaster response efforts globally, combining financial contributions with innovative technology solutions to help communities recover and rebuild after crises.
