Two Egyptian figures were named among the 100 sustainability champions in the Middle East and North African (MENA) included in the 2023 booklet issued by the International Union for Social Responsibility (IUSR).
Egypt’s Khaled Hanafi, the Secretary General of the Union of Arab Chambers, and Yasmine el Hagry, the Executive Director of Wataneya Society, are the sole Egyptians included on the list.
Hanafi was named among the figures of the IUSR honorary category.
Hanafi was also named twice on the 100-strong list of the most effective Arab figures in the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and sustainability domains in 2022 and 2021 which was issued by the Regional Network for Social Responsibility.
In 2022, the Union of Arab Chambers under Hanafi launched “Living Independently” initiative contest for disabled people in collaboration with the International Exhibition of People of Determination, the Arab League, the Investment and Technology Promotion Office of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) – Bahrain, the Arab Labor Organization, and the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport.The contest saw disabled entrepreneurs presenting projects for serving handicapped people and confronting the challenges facing them in Arab and international communities.
Yasmine el Hagry, the Executive Director of Wataneya Society, was named among the sustainability champions on the IUSR list of the professional category.
El Hagry was named among the 2022 list of the most influential Arab figures in the CSR and sustainability domains which was issued by the Regional Network for Social Responsibility.
Wataneya Society works on providing innovative solutions in the alternative care sector, with the aim of creating a future full of equal opportunities for children and youth without parental care. Since its establishment, Wataneya has succeeded in becoming a center of excellence in the field of alternative care, and a point of reference for key stakeholders both locally and internally. The International Union for Social Responsibility (IUSR) is a registered organization under the laws of the US. It is concerned with the universal values shared worldwide and the barriers of social responsibility; therefore, IUSR strives to ignite organizations passion toward social responsibilities, using international standards and partnerships.
The IUSR will operate globally from its headquarters located in the US and Arab Regional office in Morocco; through workshops, conferences, training programs, seminars, forms, events, activities, awards, certification, research studies, and membership program.
The IUSR seeks to urge government and private organizations around the world to join in promoting social responsibility, though enhancing their active community role by adopting universal methodology standards that take into account responsible environmental, economic, and social regulations. Through the implementation of programs to build institutional capabilities and provide specialized consulting that will help enhancing the application of sustainable development and social responsibility and conducting research studies on the applications of social responsibility; in addition to promotion social responsibility practices through effective professional activities. This will be achieved through collaborating and partnering with professional and specialized United Nations agencies and significant international organizations.
