Hanna: AFD expands financing tools to support sustainable development

Andrew Hanna, Portfolio Manager for Sustainable Finance at Agence Française de Développement (AFD), stressed the role of research, innovation and technical expertise in tackling global challenges, including climate change, biodiversity loss and inequality, highlighting the importance of international cooperation in maximizing development impact.

Speaking during an expert talk at Egypt Sustainable Business Week 2026, Hanna said AFD’s private sector support goes beyond financing to include guarantees that mitigate banking risks and ease companies’ access to finance, as well as technical assistance, training and capacity building to strengthen project implementation.
