Egypt’a NoorNation was selected among six extraordinary finalists of the second edition of PepsiCo Greenhouse Accelerator Program of the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.
Egypt’s NoorNation is a renewable energy startup that aims to provide sustainable decentralized energy and water infrastructure solutions to the off-grid sector across Egypt and Sub-Saharan Africa. Its product, LifeBox, is a solar-powered, self-contained mobile unit that delivers clean energy and safe water at an affordable price.
Mohamed Shelbaya, PepsiCo Egypt CEO, expressed pride for selecting Egypt’s NoorNation among the six finalist startups, noting that this great achievement highlights the efforts exerted by Egyptian entrepreneurs to create a more sustainable future in the agriculture sector.
Shelbaya said PepsiCo Egypt is committed to support entrepreneurs to promote more sustainable and resilient agricultural environment.
The six winners are Egypt’s NoorNation, Tunisia’s RoboCare as well as two Lebanese projects Dooda Solutions and YY ReGen and two Jordanian ventures SmartWTI and Smart Green.
The six finalists were selected out of more than 180 applications from 18 countries in the region.
The finalists were selected under certain criteria; namely minimizing water use and stress in the region by enhancing management of water and wastewater in agricultural activities; managing efficiencies across inputs and production processes to increase sustainable practices in agriculture; breakthrough products and technologies to support regional food security; and artificial intelligence (AI) and digitization of agricultural processes to enable for sustainable reporting.
The program selected startups and entrepreneurs with breakthrough sustainability agriculture innovations. Ultimately, furthering the PepsiCo Sustainability goals to reduce the carbon footprint across the agricultural space and enhance food security in the MENA region.
Selected innovators will receive an initial $20,000 grant to work on a new business initiative.
At the program’s closing event, a panel of judges will award one participating company with a $100,000 prize to help advance and scale their innovation.
