Egypt’s General Authority for Healthcare (GAH) signed a memorandum of understanding with AstraZeneca Egypt company to promote green healthcare facilities concept.
Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli witnessed on Monday the inking ceremony on the sidelines of the 27th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP27).
GAH Board Chairman Ahmed Sobki – who signed the memo – said the memo falls within the framework of promoting several activities related to green transition of the authority-affiliated hospitals, especially through establishing clean energy stations, using medical equipment of low-carbon footprint, and ensuring optimal use of medical waste.
Under the memo, a project for establishing charging station for electric vehicles will be funded, he said.
He added that the success of the GAH-affiliated Sharm el Sheikh International Hospital in South Sinai to get an international recognition of the Global Green and Healthy Hospitals (GGHH) marks a cornerstone for turning the GAH facilities into green ones.
For his part, AstraZeneca Egypt Board Chairman Hatem Wardani – who signed the memo – said the Egyptian state managed to surpass all expectations in developing the healthcare sector, noting that this has encouraged the private sector to contribute to this domain.
He added that this goes in line with the state efforts to develop the healthcare sector and enhance the concept of green and sustainable healthcare.
He stressed the company’s commitment to its strategic role towards the healthcare sector in Egypt.
Meanwhile, Health Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar said this is the second time for GAH-AstraZenenca cooperation, noting that the two sides collaborated in securing a small field hospital “EHA field Hospital” to ensure high-level health services for COP27 delegations.
He lauded the fruitful cooperation between the two sides, adding that this goes in line with the Egypt Vision 2030 for sustainable development as well as the 2050 National Strategy for Climate Change.
