Egypt occupied the 65th position in the Global Finance index of the World’s Safest Countries 2021, thus advancing 36 spots.

About 12 Arab countries were listed in the 134-strong index which was issued by Global Finance this month.

The UAE came in the second position followed by Qatar, while Bahrain ranked number 12.

Kuwait ranked number 18 followed by Saudi Arabia, while Morocco came in the 24th position followed by Oman.

Jordan came in the 52nd position, Algeria in the 61st, Lebanon in the 118th, and Yemen in the 126th.

Iceland ranked number 1, while the US came in 71st position and Brazil in 129th position.

With the world turned upside-down and inside-out by a global pandemic that began in 2020, determining the relative safety of each country is now more important than ever. Global Finance’s safest countries in the world rankings features updated data and sources, a new time frame, and incorporates each country’s experience and risk from Covid-19.

The safety score for countries takes into account three fundamental factors. These factors are war and peace, personal security, and natural disaster risk including the unique risk factors stemming from Covid-19. Each of these factors was based on 2020 reports that were done in 2021. In order to make sure the data is relevant to current experiences, the Covid-19 scores were derived from data as of May 30, 2021.

The top ranking countries are diverse geographically and are spread amongst Europe and Asia. Of the top 20, nine of them are located in Europe and four of those are Northern European (Iceland, Finland, Denmark, Norway). The remaining 11 out of 20 are primarily countries in the Middle East or Southeast/East Asia.
