The milestone expands access to convenient fast charging at Walmart stores, with most locations offering up to 400 kW chargers compatible with most EVs.
Charging where customers shop:
Walmart has opened its 100th company-owned and operated EV fast-charging site, expanding its network to 100 stores across 20 states.
The retailer is positioning the network around convenience, placing charging stations close to its stores so customers can charge their vehicles while shopping. The charging experience is also integrated into the Walmart app, allowing users to locate, start and pay for charging sessions.
“By expanding EV fast charging at Walmart locations across the country, we’re giving drivers a dependable way to charge while they’re in the store,” said Shayne Wahlmeier, Senior Vice President, Walmart Energy.
“Reaching 100 sites is an important milestone, and our broad footprint positions us to make EV charging more accessible for communities while expanding the ways we serve our customers.”
Up to 400 kW of charging power:
Most Walmart EV charging locations feature eight to 16 fast-charging stalls, with chargers capable of delivering up to 400 kW. The network supports both CCS and NACS connectors, making it compatible with most EVs currently on the road.
Walmart+ members can also access discounted charging rates, while customers can use the Walmart app to manage and pay for charging sessions.
“When a customer pulls into a Walmart to charge, we want the experience to feel as reliable and effortless as the rest of their shopping trip,” said Adam Happel, General Manager, Walmart Retail EV Charging.
“We’re proud to reach 100 sites, but our focus remains on building a network customers can count on every time they charge with us.”
More sites ahead:
Walmart plans to continue expanding its fast-charging network in markets where access remains limited, working with local utilities and other partners to bring new locations online.
The expansion adds another layer to Walmart’s efforts to support the growing adoption of electric vehicles by integrating charging infrastructure into locations customers already visit.
