President Abdel Fattah El Sisi has endorsed the first waste management law for Egypt to become free from waste in the coming period. The president’s approval was published in the gazette in order to start putting the law into effect.
This represents a great stride to end the hangover of waste from which the state has suffered for a long timeز
Sisi is adopting a strategic way based on studies and hard work of Egyptian cadres to find solutions to the waste problem which has affected Egypt’s civilized outlook.
These studies have laid down long-term plans for getting rid of this problem, facing emergency challenges and protecting natural and environmental resources.
Under the law, a waste management agency will be established to ditch waste in an environmentally safe way. This will encourage investments in waste collection, treatment and disposal.
Meanwhile, International Cooperation Minister Rania Mashat has recently announced two partnerships with the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development for implementing a 200-million-dollar project for improving the air quality, combating climate changes, reducing greenhouse gas emissions in Greater Cairo and developing mechanisms for solid waste management.
