SEKEM launches Sustainability Award to recognize impact in Egypt

SEKEM launched the SEKEM Sustainability Award during the second edition of the Sustainable Development for Global Impact (SDGI) conference, recognizing institutions and organizations making tangible contributions to sustainable development in Egypt.

The award reflects SEKEM’s approach to sustainability as an integrated process connecting people, society, nature and the economy, with an independent jury selecting winners across four categories: environmental, economic, social and cultural sustainability.

Four sustainability leaders recognized:

The inaugural awards recognized four organizations for contributions across SEKEM’s four sustainability pillars. Banlastic Egypt received the Cultural Sustainability Award for its Alexandria Green Film Festival initiative, while MicroFert won the Environmental Sustainability Award.

HORUS | Mobility Data Solutions received the Economic Sustainability Award, while Beltone Holding won the Social Sustainability Award for its Eco-Champions initiative.

The awards were presented during the closing ceremony of the two-day international scientific conference hosted by Heliopolis University for Sustainable Development (HUSD).

SDGI brings sustainability leaders together:

The second edition of SDGI brought together 279 participants, including 40 speakers, for discussions on sustainability challenges in Egypt, the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), and beyond.

The program featured high-level panel discussions, keynote speeches, oral presentation sessions, a scientific poster session and 20 practical workshops covering areas including climate resilience, ecosystem restoration, sustainable agriculture, water management, green entrepreneurship, social justice and sustainable building materials.

Helmy Abouleish, Chairman of HUSD’s Board of Trustees and CEO of SEKEM, said the SDGI Conference continues to provide a platform for innovation and the exchange of insights on global challenges and solutions across the four pillars of sustainable development: environment, economy, society and culture.

The conference builds on its first edition in 2025, bringing together academia, industry, policymakers, practitioners and the wider community to promote scientific dialogue, interdisciplinary collaboration and practical solutions for a sustainable future.
