The Egyptian Tourism and Antiquities Ministry lit up the Great Pyramid of Giza, Khufu Pyramid, to call on Egyptians and people worldwide to stay at home and protect themselves from the coronavirus (COVID-19).
The facade of the pyramid – which is one of the seven wonders of the world – bore short sentences in Arabic and English reading “Stay Home, Stay Safe, Thank You To Those Keeping Us Safe.”
The ministry was keen to invite international news agencies to cover the event to ensure that its message would go viral all over the world.
Addressing international media, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Khaled Anani said the state wanted to encourage Egyptians and people around the world to stay at home for the safety of their own selves and their families.
This has also sent a message of appreciation to those working on protecting people and fighting the pandemic, he said.
He added that “at the time when we stay at home, doctors and medics are working at hospitals to save patients and others are safeguarding us.”
Meanwhile, he noted that the ministry has sterilized museums, archaeological sites and hotels to contain the spread of the COVID-19.
