EgyptAir has launched several Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities in the social, therapeutic, tourism and sports domains inside and outside Egypt.

In an exclusive interview with CSR Egypt, EgyptAir Holding Company Board Chairman Ahmed Adel said the company and its affiliated companies have been engaged in several CSR initiatives with the government and the private sector to realize the maximum benefit for the society.

EgyptAir Holding Company has worked hard to encourage tourism, either through cooperation with the Tourism Ministry or tours organized by EgyptAir offices abroad for media delegations to visit Egypt and stand on the achievements realized on the ground. These media delegations circulate the information they knew about Egypt and, hence, contribute to boosting tourism, Adel said.

He added that the company has also backed Egyptian athletes through several initiatives, for example sponsoring national teams of various sports as well as renowned Egyptian squash players like, Rami Ashour and Nour el Sherbini.

The company has also organized annual journeys to European states for top students of secondary schools to incentivize them to continue studying hard, he said.

Meanwhile, he added that the company’s initiatives are not confined to Greater Cairo, noting that each office of the company whether in any governorate or outside Egypt has its own CSR agenda.

He noted that EgyptAir has been keen on making public its CSR initiatives to underline the key role of CSR and help those seeking assistance to communicate with the company to get needed support.

He added that the most remarkable activity carried out by the company in the past period was sponsoring the most important events in Egypt and the Middle East, including international forums and conferences held under the aegis of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi like the Youth Forum and Biodiversity Conference.

EgyptAir is the one in charge of bringing visiting delegations to these conferences and is keen on offering all services and facilities to delegations on board of its flights, he said, adding that the company sometimes propagate for such important events through its on-board magazines.

He noted that the company has several partners in social work like the Tourism Ministry with its various sectors as well as the Culture Ministry with which the company cooperates to spread culture and art.

He noted that the company sponsors activities of the Cairo Opera House and the General Egyptian Book Organization.

He added that EgyptAir is in charge of bringing visiting delegations to Cairo International Book Fair as well as  international film festivals held in Egypt.

He added that the company also buttresses its partners in the aviation sector to realize social development, referring to EgyptAir’s cooperation with Beoing Company – an American multinational corporation that designs, manufactures, and sells airplanes, rotorcraft, rockets and satellites – in organizing visits to Al Qasr Al Eini to offer gifts to sick children.

He added that the company is also in charge of bringing experts and specialized doctors from various world countries to Egypt’s Hospital 57357 to contribute to treating children suffering from Cancer.

He said the company also organizes periodical visits to the hospital for its employees to distribute presents among sick children.

As for women’s role in the company, Adel said the company has been pioneering in supporting women’s role, noting that since the company’s establishment in 1932, women played a pivotal role in the aviation domain, referring to Latifa el Nadi and Aziz Mohram who were leading figures in the domain.

He noted that female pilots are known of their outstanding skills, referring to the Hasnaa Taymour who was honored by President El Sisi.

He added that the company operated two flights with all-female crews during a celebration of the International Women’s Day.

He added that a delegation from the International Organization of Women Pilots (Ninety-Nines) was invited to tour the company’s maintenance centers and training academy.

EgyptAir’s CSR initiatives go in line with the Sustainable Development Goals which are meant to improve health conditions, empower women and develop education.
