Nahla Mokhtar, the Communications and Sustainability Responsible Director of L’Oréal Egypt, said empowering women is an integrated part of L’Oréal’s strategy.
The company has launched several initiatives to empower Egyptian women and help them solve their problems, she said.
In an interview with CSR Egypt, she said L’Oréal cooperated in 2020 with an America foundation specialized in the research domain to survey the problems facing women and hampering the achievement of their ambitions.
Mokhtar said the outcome of this survey showed that sexual harassment is one of the main impediments facing women, especially when they go out to the labor market.
L’Oréal has provided specialized training programs for supporting women via its website in order to help females in the face of this phenomenon, she said, noting that about 4,000 benefited from the training programs.
In 2021, the company has collaborated with the non-profit organization of Metamen to hold training programs in various governorates to combat this phenomenon, she said.
She noted that the Egyptian state has taken accelerated steps to eliminate the phenomenon of sexual harassment, especially through issuing a number of legislations for defending women’s rights in addition to collaborating with the civil society associations which are largely engaged in voluntary activities.
She added that L’Oréal has been backing women since 2018 as it launched L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science Awards and is used to honor women annually.
As for entrepreneurship, she said L’Oréal Egypt is providing needed training sessions to help females start their small businesses and achieve success.
As for the 2022 cooperate social responsibility (CSR) plan of L’Oréal Egypt, Mokhtar said the company will launch in the coming period a program for supporting women suffering from violence in tandem with Care International Foundation and the Sawiris Foundation for Social Development.
