Hy24 to acquire EDF’s Hynamics in low-carbon hydrogen expansion
By Marwa Nassar - -
French investment firm Hy24 has signed an agreement with EDF Pulse Ventures to acquire Hynamics, an EDF Group subsidiary producing and marketing low-carbon hydrogen for heavy transport and industrial sectors in France and the United Kingdom.

The transaction is expected to close in the first quarter of 2027, subject to customary conditions, including regulatory approvals.

Expanding low-carbon hydrogen operations:

Hynamics develops low-carbon hydrogen projects serving heavy mobility and industrial applications. The acquisition aims to support the company’s next growth phase and establish a leading French-British player in the low-carbon hydrogen sector.

Hy24, through its Clean Hydrogen Infrastructure fund, invests in low-carbon hydrogen and its derivatives. The acquisition aligns with EDF Pulse Ventures’ strategy of supporting portfolio companies as they transition to new ownership and secure the resources and expertise needed to scale their operations.

Supporting Europe’s hydrogen industry:

EDF Group Chief Innovation Officer Julien Villeret said the transaction would give Hynamics an opportunity to accelerate the expansion of its project portfolio under the ownership of a major investor dedicated to developing the hydrogen economy.

Hy24 Co-founder and CEO Pierre-Etienne Franc said Hynamics had helped lay the foundations for an industry critical to decarbonizing heavy industry and transport in France and the United Kingdom.

He added that scaling up the sector across Europe would require strong industrial players and financial partners capable of mobilizing the investment needed for deployment, as consolidation around promising projects supports European energy security.

Low-carbon hydrogen production:

Hynamics produces hydrogen through water electrolysis, a process that does not emit CO₂ when powered by electricity generated from low-carbon sources.
