SABIC, a global leader in chemical industry, has set a new target to install 4 gigawatts (4000 Megawatts) of renewable energy by 2025 and 12 gigawatts by 2030 in order to reduce the carbon footprint and of products and supply chain
It is targeting 25% reduction in energy and greenhouse gas emission intensity by 2025, against its 2010 baseline.
Company’s recent Sustainability reveals that it has goals to reduce material-loss intensity by 50% and water intensity by 20% till 2025, against baseline year. “Our absolute material loss remained at 3.3 million tons this year.”, report said.
It will be reducing emissions from flaring by 65% compared to 2010 level, and also reduce hazardous and non-hazardous waste be below 2010 levels, all by 2025.
To ensure these ambitious goals translate in impact, Company is restructuring sustainability governance, will build a sustainability culture through training, engagement and operational excellence.
Company has invested around 900 million USD in CSR initiatives, developing long-term mutual beneficial partnership with local communities.
SABIC has released its Sustainability Report 2019 ‘Toward a Circular Future’, covering performance over the past year and detailing how sustainability fits into the broader global business strategy.
Dr. Abdulaziz Saleh Aljarbou, SABIC Chairman, said, “We are driven by concern for plastics in the environment, the search for new ways to reuse and re-purpose materials, and a desire for effective regulations, especially in packaging. These priorities have led to investments in circular product-solutions and our ability to accept chemically recycled feedstock.”
