The United Arab Emirates got the lions’ share of the excellence awards distributed on Wednesday by the Arab League to honor a number of Arab figures for their outstanding contributions in various scores.
The awards were distributed during the fifth Arab Conference for Culture and Creativity.
The Arab League (AL) honored UAE’s Sharjah Ruler Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi as the winner of the Award of Excellence in Supporting Poetry in the Arab world.
The UAE’s Juma Al Majid Center for Culture and Heritage copped the award of excellence for supporting Arab heritage.
Moreover, the Arab League bestowed the Arab award of excellence for supporting scientific research on Mariam Matar of the UAE’s Health Ministry.
Saudi Arabia’s Prince Walid ben Talal and Egypt’s business mogul Naguib Sawirus were honored for their outstanding support for the private sector.
Egypt’s Dr Moustafa El Fiqqi shared Algeria the Arab excellence award for culture, while the Moroccan government won the Arab excellence award in the economic score.
Lebanon’s lawmaker Bahia El Hariri was honored for her humanitarian and charitable contributions.
The fifth Arab Conference for Culture and Creativity – which opened on Wednesday at the Cairo-based Arab League HQ – was organized by the Arab League General Secretariat in tandem with the Arab Center for Culture and Information.
The one-day event is held within the framework of a memorandum of understanding inked between the Arab League and the Arab Center for Culture and Information in 2006.
The conference aims t underlined the key role of culture and innovation in realizing development.
The event seeks to encourage investments in the fields of culture and innovation as well as incentivizing Arabs to be more creative.
This goes in line with the Sustainable Development Goals which call for spreading quality education and encouraging innovation to confront the challenges besetting the planet.
