Lebanon, Egypt, Saudi Arabia winners of Arab Entrepreneurship Rally
Lebanon, Egypt and Saudi Arabia were named as the winners of the “Arab Entrepreneurship Rally” during a ceremony held on the sidelines of the World Entrepreneurs Investment Forum 2019 (WEIF 2019).
WEIF – which was held in Manama on November 11 through 13 – coincided with the18th Arab Business and Investors Conference. The conference was held under the slogan ‘Investing in the Fourth Industrial Revolution: Entrepreneurship and Innovation in the Digital Economy’.
DLOC from Lebanon was declared as the top winner of the Arab Entrepreneurship Rally and was awarded $ 50,000.
Egypt’s Smart Wheelchair came in the second position and was awarded $ 25,000, while Saudi Arabia’s Gallah got $ 10,000 as it ranked no 3.
Several teams from 14 Arab countries were vying in the competition. The 14 countries included Egypt, Mauritania, Libya, Jordan, Bahrain, Oman, Palestine, Lebanon, Iraq, Tunisia, Morocco, Algeria and Saudi Arabia.
Believing that youth are the main catalyst of change and that the desired Arab change needs the efforts of its youth, the Union of Arab Chambers launched the rally in tandem with the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport, the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) Office for investment and promotion of technology in Bahrain, and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Bahrain.
The rally was meant to encourage a wide participation of Arab youths – aging between 18 to 30 years – to give momentum to innovation and entrepreneurship in the Arab world.
The rally also sought to post Arab youths on the needs of the labor market and create more job opportunities in order to contribute to sustainable development in the Arab region.
The projects focused on innovation in technology, the fourth industrial revolution, renewable energy, agricultural technology, pollution and waste recycling.
