Egypt is moving ahead to produce electric mini-cars and charging stations to reduce fuel consumption and cut greenhouse gas emissions through depending on clean energy in line with the Sustainable Development Goals.
The Egyptian Ministry of Military Production said it will would produce electric mini-cars, in collaboration with Egyptian IMUT company.
The ministry said the electric mini-cars “E-Motion” will be affordable, but the prices would be announced soon.
The ministry made the announcement during a celebration marking the launch of a new project to manufacture electric buses in partnership with China’s Foton Motor.
Under the deal signed between the Ministry of Military Production and Foton Motors, Egypt will produce 2000 electric buses in four years using local components that will gradually reach 45 percent.
Meanwhile, Cabinet Spokesman Nader Saad said the Foton Company chairman has laid down the foundation stone of its 60,000-square meter factory in the Egyptian Sadat city to produce natural gas vehicles.
The factory will start operation in December 2020, Saad said.
He added that the auto-feeding industry in Egypt is strong and this may encourage the Foton company to up the local components used in the product to 60 percent.
Egypt has been marking a breakthrough in the transportation sector by seeking to produce eco-friendly vehicles.
