The cooperation between Egypt’s Elsewedy Electric and Switzerland contributes to offering better technical education in line with the Sustainable Development Goal 4 on Quality Education.
He made the remarks while commenting on an important visit by Switzerland’s Federal Councillor Guy Parmelin, Head of the Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education, and Research and his accompanying delegation to Elsewedy Technical Academy (STA).
Elsewedy said “quality education is the main factor for realizing comprehensive development and sustainable growth in Egypt.”
He said “Our cooperation with Switzerland contributes directly to launching distinguished training and educational program for students of technical education in Egypt who will play a pivotal role in the local labor market.”
Parmelin’s visit underlined his country’s support for technical and vocational education in Egypt, especially through its cooperation with Elsewedy Technical Academy (STA), Elsewedy said.
Swiss Ambassador in Cairo Paul Garnier, who accompanied Parmelin during the visit, said ” Switzerland, as one of pioneering world countries in the field of technical and vocational education and training, is proud to cooperate with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and STA to offer a chance of high-quality technical training and education for Egyptian youth in line with international standards.”
Meanwhile, Parmelin said “we are committed to supporting technical education and training in Egypt in view of the deeply-rooted ties binding the two countries.”
He hailed the progress realized under the technical education program in Egypt, adding that he is looking forward for more fruitful cooperation with STA.
The STA-Switzerland collaboration started in September 2018 with the support of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO). Later on, the GFA-Consulting Group, one of the largest German companies in the field of development cooperation, worked on updating the 3-year “Industrial Electronics Technician” program through enriching its content in view of the German training programs in order to offer STA students higher quality education and training.
The STA seeks to further cooperation with Switzerland in technical education and training in order to hone skills of Egyptian youths to be able to join the Egyptian labor market.
Elsewedy Technical Academy (STA) is a three-year technical secondary school that is offering customized dual technical and vocational education for the major economic industries based on German standards for both males and females.
Programs offer customized technical education and training for the major industries following the latest international standards.
In 2011, Elsewedy Electric and the Ministry of Education signed an initiative to start Elsewedy Technical School.
This initiative aimed to improve the technical education and training for both, males and females in order to have a better connection between the technical school and the professional work environment by providing an enhanced educational program focusing on training the students and developing their skills in a real work environment.
Based on the success of the technical school, Elsewedy Electric aimed to extend the concept beyond the local market and support the region as a whole, under the name of Elsewedy Technical Academy, STA.
STA offers full scholarship for both male and female students, with a current capacity of 1,200 Students
STA acquired the international Quality Management Certificate ISO 29990 in 2018 so it became the first TVET school in the region with this certificate.
