Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Daren Tang said Egypt became an inspiring model to be followed by the rest of the Middle East, given the leadership of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi toward unprecedented achievements in various fields.
He made the remarks during a meeting with President Sisi in the presence of Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Mohamed Ayman Ashour.
Tang expressed his honor to meet with President Sisi, praising Egypt’s efforts in cooperating with WIPO to support intellectual property, capacity-building, and development efforts and to provide job opportunities for young innovators.
These efforts were embodied in Egypt’s launch of the National Strategy for Intellectual Property (IP) under Egypt’s Development Vision 2030, he said.
During the meeting, President Sisi affirmed Egypt’s keenness to integrate intellectual property issues into its national policy, as knowledge, innovation and scientific research are a fundamental pillar of economic development and progress, the Egyptian Presidency spokesman said.
As Egypt is launching the National Strategy for Intellectual Property, the president said Egypt supports cooperation with WIPO in various fields, especially scientific research, science, technology, and innovation and it also supports entrepreneurs and innovators.
The National Strategy for Intellectual Property is the first-ever step of its kind for IP in Egypt and aims to realize governance of institutional structure of IP by establishing a national apparatus for IP as well as boost digital transformation and provide registration services in IT methods.
The strategy aims to pave the way for a legislative environment on IP and support digital transformation in government services as well as spread the concepts of innovation by merging such concepts with all phases of the educational process.
