Social Solidarity Minister Nivine Kabbaj said the ministry is deeply interested in investing in humans and efforts in this respect will be expanded at the villages’ level.
Investing in humans starts with young dropouts to pensioners, she said during a session on civil society on the fringe of the 12th Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Sustainable Development (12th CSR Forum).
Kabbaj said the state plays a key role in social protection not only through financial support, but also through economic empowerment, women and child health, taking care of negatively affected children and ensuring educational and health rights of at needy strata.
She noted that there are almost no services for disabled persons in the villages, adding that the number of handicapped persons in villages is increasing because of early marriage.
Therefore, the ministry focuses on offering services for children and handicapped persons, she said, noting that there is close cooperation with civil society organizations to offer services in villages and remote areas.
She added that there are services for economic empowerment of rural women, highlighting the importance of the presence of production units is villages for marketing purposes and forming value chains.
She referred to efforts to confront poverty through supporting eco-friendly products and handicrafts.
She also noted that the ministry has established social development schools as there are more than one million dropouts and this number is liable to increase.
Kabbaj said the ministry is engaged in partnership with civil society partners as both sides complement each other, citing the productive families as an example.
She said the civil society is working in several sectors, including education, health, economic empowerment, social protection, economic empowerment, etc.
The minister said the presidential initiative of Decent Life is mechanism not just a project as projects end in a certain time, but the mechanism can go on, therefore, plans should be prepared for post-Decent Life, especially through institutional development, social responsibility and social protection.
