United Nations Resident Coordinator in Egypt Richard Dictus said Egypt has great potentials to secure decent lives for all its citizens.
He said the Sustainable Development Agenda 2030 is meant to improve human lives, noting that securing decent life for people needs a lot of resources.
The scarcity of resources is the problem that faces the whole world, not just Egypt, he said on Monday during the 10th annual Forum for Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Sustainable Development – known as CSR Forum.
He noted that modern economic models heed growth and prosperity at the expense of realizing equality inside the state, expounding that rich countries are becoming richer, while poor countries are becoming poorer.
Over the past decade, there is a problem with attaining the sustainable development goals, he said, noting that more efforts should be exerted to boost resources to reduce poverty.
Dictus said realizing sustainability and curbing poverty require drumming up international and national efforts to adopt new life patterns.
Meanwhile, Dictus hailed the Egyptian government’s actions during the COVID-19 crisis.
He said Egypt took the right measures to maintain economic growth rates during the coronavirus crisis, particularly through promoting social protection networks and adopting proper mechanisms at the health and social levels.
He noted that Egypt managed to increase production as well as exports in addition to creating more job opportunities.
