Siemens has inaugurated its new Electrification and Automation factory in Egypt, strengthening the company’s industrial presence in the country and supporting Egypt’s transition toward a more sustainable and resilient energy system.

The facility will produce key energy technologies, including switchgear, substation control and monitoring systems, protection systems, and embedded cybersecurity solutions, helping meet the growing needs of Egypt’s electricity infrastructure and renewable energy expansion.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by senior Egyptian officials, including Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Esmat and Minister of Industry Khaled Hashem, along with Siemens AG executives.

Supporting Egypt’s renewable energy goals:

Egypt aims to increase the share of renewable energy in its power mix to 45% by 2028. Siemens said the new facility will support this target by providing technologies that enhance grid reliability, enable renewable energy integration, and strengthen the protection of critical power infrastructure.

The factory’s solutions will serve Egypt’s transmission and distribution networks, with cybersecurity features embedded into substation control systems to meet international standards for safeguarding energy assets.

“Localizing the production of critical energy technologies is key to building resilient infrastructure and competitive industries,” said Stephan May, CEO of Electrification and Automation at Siemens.

“With our new facility, we bring production closer to our customers, strengthening supply chains, accelerating delivery and supporting Egypt’s industrial growth and energy transition,” he added.

Boosting local manufacturing:

The new plant supports Egypt’s National Industry Strategy (2024–2030), which identifies electrical and engineering industries as priority sectors for localization and increasing the industrial sector’s contribution to GDP.

The investment follows a memorandum of understanding signed between Siemens and the Industrial Development Authority in September 2024 to expand local manufacturing of electrical products.

By producing energy technologies locally, Siemens aims to strengthen supply chains and support Egyptian engineering, procurement and construction companies working on energy and infrastructure projects in Egypt, North Africa, and the wider African market.

“Today reflects Siemens’ belief in Egypt’s future. A future that is powered by innovation, sustainability, and collaboration,” said Mostafa el-Bagoury, CEO of Siemens Egypt.

“The new facility represents Siemens’ latest step in a journey that combines global expertise with local empowerment, delivering cutting-edge technologies made in Egypt, for Egypt and beyond,” he added.

Building local expertise through training:

The facility also houses the Siemens Power Academy, a training center designed to develop local skills in electrification and automation.

The academy will provide professionals with hands-on training in designing, operating, and maintaining advanced energy infrastructure, helping build the expertise needed to support Egypt’s evolving energy sector.

A dedicated Customer Experience Center at the site will showcase Siemens’ digital twin and Internet of Things (IoT)-based solutions for energy management and grid optimization.

New chapter in Siemens-Egypt partnership:

Siemens has been operating in Egypt for 125 years, contributing to major infrastructure projects, including grid modernization programs, the country’s high-speed rail network, and the Middle East’s first Industry 4.0 Innovation Center in the New Administrative Capital.

The new facility marks a shift toward manufacturing advanced technologies in Egypt, creating local value, strengthening technical capabilities, and supporting the country’s ambition to become a regional hub for advanced industry.
