L’Oréal Groupe has unveiled the findings of an independent socio-economic impact study showing its operations in Egypt support more than 22,000 jobs, while its manufacturing, exports and community initiatives have positively impacted more than 117,000 people through programs focused on women’s empowerment, science, healthcare and digital inclusion.

Conducted by French economic research firm Astères using OECD-based modeling, the report was presented in Cairo under the auspices of the Prime Minister’s Office in the presence of Minister of Planning and Economic Development Ahmed Rostom, Minister of Industry Khaled Hashem, French Ambassador to Egypt Eric Chevallier, and senior government officials, industry leaders and civil society representatives.

Jobs multiplier, industrial growth:

According to the study, every direct job created by L’Oréal Egypt generates 43 additional indirect jobs across the local value chain, including packaging, logistics, distribution, raw materials and retail services.

Over the past 17 years, L’Oréal Egypt has grown into the country’s largest beauty company, offering a portfolio of 14 international brands. Its Cairo manufacturing plant, opened in 2013, has become a regional production hub, exporting 85% of its production to 20 countries across the Middle East and North Africa.

“This report puts concrete, audited facts behind our corporate purpose and commitment to Egypt. I can proudly say we do not just operate in Egypt; we invest in its future and actively contribute to its advancement,” said Mohamed El Araby, Managing Director of L’Oréal Egypt.

“Over the past 17 years, we have grown hand-in-hand with the Egyptian nation, driving national progress in beauty. This commitment stems from our deep conviction that the beauty industry must serve as a force for good. It is a powerful economic engine that creates sustainable jobs, drives localized industrial exports, empowers women and youth, and models the green transition. Our journey is definitive proof that business performance and positive social impact go hand-in-hand.”

Ahmed Rostom, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, said the report demonstrates that investing in Egypt goes beyond economic returns and represents a sustainable partnership focused on empowering people and building the future.

Khaled Hashem, Minister of Industry, said L’Oréal Egypt’s initiatives to support local communities, develop human capital and empower women and youth reflect the private sector’s role in advancing Egypt’s economic and social development. He added that the ministry looks forward to expanding such initiatives to strengthen innovation, capacity building and sustainable environmental practices.

French Ambassador to Egypt Eric Chevallier said the assessment provides a clear illustration of the contribution French companies make to Egypt’s economy, workforce and communities, noting they support more than 50,000 direct jobs across the country.

Social programs reach 117,000 Egyptians:

The study found L’Oréal Egypt’s social initiatives have positively impacted more than 117,000 people, with a focus on women’s empowerment, scientific advancement, healthcare and digital inclusion.

The L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science Egypt National Young Talents Program has recognized and funded 24 Egyptian female scientists since 2018.

The L’Oréal Paris Stand Up Against Street Harassment initiative has trained more than 50,000 people in bystander intervention and aims to reach another 80,000 people over the next 15 months.

Beauty For a Better Life has provided free vocational beauty training to more than 1,000 vulnerable women, while the Fondation L’Oréal’s Fund For Women has supported more than 1,000 women who experienced domestic violence through rehabilitation services and awareness programs.

La Roche-Posay’s Fight With Care partnership with the Baheya Foundation has reached more than 50,000 people with cancer support services, while the Tech Her Up accelerator has trained 600 Egyptian women in advanced technology and digital skills.

Cairo plant advances sustainable manufacturing:

The report also highlighted the environmental performance of L’Oréal’s Cairo manufacturing plant, which has produced 442 million units over the past five years.

The LEED-certified facility has operated on 100% renewable energy since 2024 and recycles and reuses all industrial water through a closed-loop Waterloop system. Since 2019, the plant has also maintained the use of 100% recycled PET in packaging for locally produced haircare products.
