Global renewable energy company Sonnedix has closed a €730 million financing to refinance, optimise, and construct renewable energy assets across Italy, Spain, Portugal, and France.

The financing covers solar PV plants with a combined capacity of approximately 540MW, along with two battery energy storage system (BESS) assets. Italy represents the largest share of the allocation, with capacity exceeding 350MW.

Expanding battery storage:

The refinancing will provide Sonnedix with a platform to expand its hybridisation strategy, including the development of battery storage alongside its solar PV portfolio.

The company said the approach will help it expand its storage capabilities, reach new customers, and strengthen the flexibility, resilience, and value of its renewable energy platform.

The transaction was formalized with the participation of AIB, CACIB, CIBC, ING, Intesa Sanpaolo, Sabadell, Santander CIB, Société Générale, and UniCredit.

Sonnedix on the deal:

“This financing reflects Sonnedix’s commitment to developing high quality renewable projects in our strategic markets. It follows our recent BESS portfolio acquisition in Italy, and underscores the pace at which we are scaling our storage capabilities across Europe,” said Axel Thiemann, CEO of Sonnedix.

Miguel A. García Mascuñán, CFO of Sonnedix, said: “A €730 million financing is a major milestone for Sonnedix, offering significant financial flexibility and capacity to accelerate our development pipeline across core markets. This also reflects the continued trust and confidence of our partners, and we are proud to continue building on these [partnerships].”

The transaction adds to Sonnedix’s momentum across Southern Europe and supports its strategy of integrating battery storage into its renewable energy portfolio.
