MIDBANK: Sustainable projects must prove impact to secure funding
By Marwa Nassar - -

Mohamed Abdel Hamid, Head of Sustainability & Sustainable Finance at MIDBANK, said financing sustainable projects requires verifying their ability to deliver clear, measurable environmental benefits, alongside assessing their economic and operational viability to ensure funding goes to projects capable of achieving tangible sustainability outcomes.

He said projects must undergo comprehensive feasibility assessments before financing is granted, while companies’ financial soundness and ability to repay installments and meet their financing obligations must also be examined to ensure business continuity after receiving funding.

Mohamed Abdel Hamid made the remarks during the first session, titled “How Can Sustainability Projects Become Bankable and Investment-Ready? From Concept to Finance,” at Egypt Sustainable Business Week.

Assessing results after financing:

The MIDBANK official stressed the importance of monitoring projects after they receive financing and enter actual operation to assess their performance, evaluate the results achieved and verify whether the funding has delivered the intended positive environmental impact.

He added that evaluating the success of sustainable projects goes beyond meeting financing requirements before funds are granted. It also requires tracking actual performance after operations begin and measuring progress against the objectives on which the financing decision was based.
