Google-RWE solar deal brings $24.3 mln in local economic impact

Google and RWE have signed a 15-year power purchase agreement (PPA) for the full output of RWE’s 155MW Crooked Creek Solar project in McCurtain County, Oklahoma, which is expected to generate $24.3 million in local economic activity during construction and create up to 250 jobs at peak.

RWE plans to begin construction later this year, with the project expected to enter commercial operation in 2028. Once operational, Crooked Creek Solar will supply power to support Google’s operations in the Southwest Power Pool (SPP) market while providing locally sourced electricity to Oklahoma.

Local impact:

The project is expected to generate an additional $1.4 million in state and local tax revenue for McCurtain County during construction.

Once operational, Crooked Creek Solar is projected to generate an estimated $25 million in revenue for the county over its operating lifetime, supporting county programs, local emergency medical services, the Broken Bow School District and regional technology education centers.

RWE has also provided more than $100,000 in donations, sponsorships and other community partnerships in Oklahoma and plans to deepen its engagement with local organizations in McCurtain County.

RWE doubles down on Oklahoma:

Crooked Creek Solar will be RWE’s first solar project in Oklahoma, adding to its growing energy portfolio in the state.

RWE currently owns and operates the 148MW Boiling Springs wind project in Woodward County and has another six power projects totaling 1.6GW under development across Oklahoma.
