Emirates NBD Egypt has released its third Carbon Footprint Report, covering the bank’s operational activities and emissions during 2025 as it works to identify opportunities to reduce its environmental impact and improve resource efficiency.

Measuring emissions:

The report measures carbon emissions from the bank’s day-to-day operations, including energy consumption, transportation and logistics. The data is being used to establish reduction targets and inform measures supporting the transition toward a low-carbon economy, in line with Egypt Vision 2030 and relevant international standards.

The report also strengthens the bank’s monitoring and disclosure of environmental performance, providing data to support future operational plans and the adoption of more sustainable practices.

Banking for a lower-carbon economy:

Amr ElShafie, CEO and Managing Director of Emirates NBD Egypt, said the release of the third report marks an important step in embedding sustainability across the bank’s operations.

“Accurately measuring our operational carbon footprint enables us to make informed strategic decisions and support smart, long-term investments that enhance asset value, while reinforcing our role as a responsible financial partner contributing to Egypt’s transition towards a low-carbon economy,” ElShafie said.

Amgad Doma, Chief Strategy and Sustainability Officer at Emirates NBD Egypt, said the report provides a data-driven view of the bank’s emissions sources and helps identify and prioritize reduction opportunities.

The bank aims to translate the findings into practical measures integrated into its daily operations, while encouraging employees to contribute to environmental innovation and sustainability initiatives.

Broader sustainability reporting:

Emirates NBD Egypt also publishes an annual Sustainability Report covering its environmental, social and governance performance, alongside an annual Financed Emissions Report measuring the environmental impact associated with its lending and investment portfolio.

Together, the reports provide separate measures of the bank’s operational footprint and the emissions linked to its financing activities, supporting its sustainable finance efforts in Egypt.
