Elwany: Real estate developers stunned with strict measures to get financing

May Elwany, Co-founder & CEO of SALūS Global for Green Buildings, said real estate developers are stunned with strict disclosures and measures needed to get financing in accordance with the sustainability drive.

The construction sector is globally responsible for 30 to 50 percent for energy consumption, sources depletion, and water consumption, Elwany said.

All natural resources are being affected by this sector, she added.

She said “although this sector is serving us, it is harming us at the same time.”

As for Global North and Global South, Elwany expounded that the Global North has laid down many standards, including net zero, green building, and community resilience, adding, however, that these measures are hard to be attained by emerging markets.

Elwany made the remarks during the 13^th CSR and Sustainable Development Forum which is organized by CSR Egypt. The event opened on Thursday in the Red Sea resort city of Hurghada.
