Egypt to set up Business Council for Sustainability
Egypt will set up a Business Council for Sustainability to be an institutional framework comprising development partners from government, private sector, and civil society with an aim to coordinate and integrate efforts to achieve sustainable development consistent with Egypt’s vision 2030.
Egypt’s Ministry of Planning and Economic Development signed a memorandum of understanding with the Federation of Egyptian Industries and the Orman Association on the establishment of the Egyptian Business Council for Sustainability.
This came on the sidelines of the 2nd Edition of the “Sustainability and Economic and Social Transformations” conference which was held in Luxor on 2-5 March 2022.
Minister of Planning Hala el Saeed said that the signing of the MoU comes within the framework of the leading role of the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development to achieve sustainable development.
She added that the ministry also works on drawing up impact measurement policies through effective planning, follow-up, and evaluation of government performance, to implement the sustainable development agenda.
She also referred to the ministry’s efforts to forge the national sustainable development strategy (Egypt Vision 2030) in coordination with the ministries concerned.
The ministry also follows up the implementation of the national sustainability strategy, while taking into consideration conformity with the 2063 Africa Agenda.
Moreover, the ministry works on preparing periodical reports for assessing the implementation of sustainable development goals.
