Egypt planted 1.3 million trees in seven governorates; Qaliobiya, Gharbiya, Fayyoum, Beni Suef, Assiut, Menya and New Valley, Agriculture Minister Sayyed Quseir said.
This falls within the framework of the first stage of the presidential initiative for planting 100 million trees which aims to double per capita green spaces, improve air quality and public health, and reduce greenhouse gases.
Egypt seeks to realize the utmost economic benefit from planting trees and achieving sustainable agricultural development,Quseir said, noting that the government is deeply interested in implementing the initiative to confront the negative impact of climate change.
