DHL Group has signed a 10-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with renewable energy provider Statkraft to source around 35 GWh of renewable electricity annually from a newly commissioned onshore wind farm in northern Germany. The agreement, which took effect in February, will cover around 8% of DHL’s current electricity demand in Germany.
The electricity will come from the 13.2 MW Sollwitt-Pobüll wind park in Schleswig-Holstein, marking DHL’s first long-term onshore wind PPA in the country.
The new agreement builds on DHL’s existing offshore wind PPAs in Germany, diversifying the company’s renewable energy mix while strengthening supply security and long-term price stability.
By sourcing electricity directly from a newly built wind project outside Germany’s renewable subsidy scheme, DHL is supporting the expansion of new renewable energy capacity while advancing its decarbonization strategy.
“Our first onshore wind PPA strengthens the resilience of our energy supply and directly supports new renewable capacity in Germany,” said Anna Spinelli, DHL Group’s Chief Procurement Officer and Head of Mobility.
For Statkraft, the deal expands its renewable electricity business into the logistics sector, where demand for clean energy continues to grow as companies pursue net-zero targets.
The Norwegian energy company said its tailored PPA model offers customers long-term price certainty while providing direct access to renewable electricity from newly developed wind projects.
The agreement reflects the growing role of long-term power purchase agreements in helping large corporations decarbonize their operations while supporting investment in new renewable energy infrastructure. By combining onshore and offshore wind contracts, DHL is broadening its clean energy sourcing strategy and reducing its reliance on conventional electricity.
