Citi Impact Fund has committed $25 million to companies developing technology-driven solutions aimed at expanding affordable housing access, improving supply, and addressing housing challenges across communities in the United States.
The investment is part of Citi’s five-year Blueprint for Housing Opportunity initiative and will support entrepreneurs and companies using innovation to strengthen the housing ecosystem. Areas of focus include artificial intelligence platforms that help contractors improve construction efficiency, construction technologies that reduce costs, and financial technology solutions that help lower barriers to homeownership for first-time buyers.
Driving innovation:
“We’ve witnessed innovation transform countless industries, from healthcare to financial services, and it’s time to bring that same energy and ingenuity to the housing space,” said Edward Skyler, Citi’s Head of Enterprise Services and Public Affairs.
Skyler said the initiative aims to demonstrate how entrepreneurship and technology can help expand access to affordable homes while creating sustainable business opportunities.
Since its launch in 2020, the Citi Impact Fund has invested in companies developing solutions to support economically vulnerable communities across areas including social infrastructure, financial resilience, the future of work, and climate resilience.
Scaling housing solutions:
Previous housing-related investments have included companies using large-scale 3D printing technology to reduce construction costs and technology-enabled housing marketplaces that connect renters with affordable long-term housing opportunities.
Under the new commitment, the fund will seek investments in solutions designed to improve housing affordability and efficiency, including construction technologies that increase productivity, digital financial tools that support homeownership, and AI-powered platforms that help contractors streamline administrative processes such as permitting.
Broader housing strategy:
The investment supports Citi’s broader Blueprint for Housing Opportunity initiative, which builds on the company’s affordable housing financing efforts.
As part of the initiative, Citi and the Citi Foundation plan to provide $60 billion in capital over five years for affordable housing acquisition, construction, rehabilitation, and long-term financing.
The Citi Foundation will also provide $50 million in philanthropic grants to nonprofit organizations addressing local housing challenges, supporting residents’ financial stability, and funding research into scalable housing solutions.
Citi said it will continue supporting policies that help increase housing supply and affordability, including initiatives such as the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit program.
