Aswan Green Flag initiative launched, 12,000 trees to be planted in 3 years
The “Aswan Green Flag” initiative was launched within the framework of the ongoing preparations for the 27th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP27) which will be held in Egypt’s Red Sea resort city of Sharm El-Sheikh in November.
Governor of Aswan Ashraf Attia gave the go-ahead for the four-day social initiative which is meant to serve the goals of the State’s sustainable development plan as well as “Egypt Vision 2030“.
The overture is meant to raise awareness among people, especially youths, about the importance of protecting the environment and changing their attitudes to curb water and air pollution, he said.
He also underlined the importance of protecting natural reserves and managing them in accordance with international standards to maintain the balance of the eco-system and promote economic and social development under a clean and safe environment.
He added that the initiative also aims at spreading awareness about the importance of recycling, rationalizing energy consumption and planting trees.
He said the Aswan governorate plans to plant about 12,000 trees in the coming three years, noting that a symbolic tree was planted in front of the governorate’s headquarters.
He noted that the governorate had recently been affected by the negative impact of climate change, including extreme weather changes, such as the torrential rains that hit the governorate in November.
