700+ Climate Pledge signatories cut emissions 11%, outpacing peers

Companies signed up to The Climate Pledge cut their reported operational carbon emissions by an average 11%, compared with a 7% decline among companies outside the initiative, according to a new report by Amazon in collaboration with Global Optimism.

The report, which tracks more than 700 signatories across 49 countries and territories and 62 industries, highlights progress toward the Pledge’s goal of net-zero carbon emissions by 2040.

Operational emissions fall 11%:

Pledge signatories collectively cut 14 million metric tons of CO₂e from direct operations and purchased energy. The median reduction was higher at 21%, while three in four signatories reduced emissions from these sources.

The combined reductions are equivalent to avoiding emissions from gas-powered cars driving 35.6 billion miles, according to the report.

Signatories are projected to eliminate at least 2.6 billion metric tons of CO₂e annually by 2040 if they meet their net-zero commitments.

Purchased-energy emissions drop 35%:

Emissions from purchased electricity, heat, steam and cooling declined by an average 35%, driven largely by renewable energy procurement.

Direct operational emissions, including those from fuel combustion and industrial processes, fell 4% on average, reflecting the greater challenges involved in areas such as fleet electrification and industrial-process changes.

Pledge membership grows 19%:

The Climate Pledge added 107 companies in 2025, up 19% from 2024, bringing its total to more than 700 signatories.

The initiative also expanded into sectors and regions with historically harder-to-abate emissions. It added 51 fashion and beauty brands in 2025, bringing the sector’s total to 60, while signatory numbers in Latin America and Asia Pacific increased 164% and 24%, respectively.

33 joint projects target hard-to-abate emissions:

The Climate Pledge has launched 33 joint action projects involving 122 signatories to address shared decarbonization challenges.

In 2025, nine projects brought together 44 signatories, covering areas including electric freight, building efficiency and lower-carbon construction materials.
