Zahi Hawwas first Egyptian, African to win Karic Foundation award
Renowned Egyptologist Zahi Hawwas is the first Egyptian and African person to cop the annual award of Karic Foundation in Serbia.
He won the 2019 award for scientific and research work for his outstanding contributions in the archaeological score.
The honoring ceremony was attended by around 500 intellectuals, politicians, and Egyptian ambassador to Belgrade Amr El-Goueily.
The award was also bestowed on five other figures from Greece, Italy, Czech, and France.
During the honoring ceremony, a documentary film about Hawwas was screened.
Hawwas dedicated the award to the Egyptian people.
Addressing the ceremony, the Egyptian archaeologist talked about his precious discoveries and his passion for Egyptian antiquities since he discovered the statue of the Greek goddess of love “Aphrodite”.
On his part, the foundation chairman affirmed that Hawass is the most famous Egyptian worldwide.
It is worth mentioning that, the Karic Brothers Award ceremony honors winners from Serbia and abroad for outstanding achievements at the crowded National Theater in Belgrade. The award is presented annually.
It is granted for the highest achievements in the following categories: culture and arts, scientific research work, publishing and journalism, economy and commerce, humanitarian activity in support of peace, cooperation and amity amongst people.
