Sisi opens tunnels linking South Port Said, Sinai under SDGs
President Abdel Fattah El Sisi inaugurated on Tuesday new tunnels linking South Ports Said to Sinai – which are considered one of the biggest national projects. It took four years to construct these tunnels.
The tunnels will facilitate movement between Canal cities and Sinai and this will consequently encourage investments and lead realizing development in Sinai.
The tunnels will also help creating jobs, especially in the canal cities and Sinai, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The tunnels are designed in accordance with the at highest international safety standards to ensure safety of people. It is estimated that it would take six minutes maximum to cross the tunnel.
Each tunnel has two lanes and is designed to accommodate up t 2,000 cars per hour and is supported by all needed tools and measures for any emergency.
About 6,000 Egyptian workers and engineers contributed to building these tunnels which pass beneath Suez Canal at a depth of 42 meters.
The tunnels are fit out with four power sources, thus power outage is impossible.
