Egypt’s DAMFI saves $ 482,000 a year on its energy costs
The Dough & More Food Industries (DAMFI) saves $482,000 a year on its energy costs, while also improving the quality of its goods and boosting its growth potential. The new system has also helped reduce the company’s CO2 emissions by 4,962 tons per year.
Together with the European Union and backed by the Green Economy Financing Facility, the EBRD is helping DAMFI in Egypt to invest in energy-efficient baking methods.
EBRD is boosting innovation in Egypt’s food industry.
Basant Assayed Ahmad, Head of Quality Control of DAMFI, said “DAMFI is a regional leader. One of our key innovation is sourdough which is a healthier choice with natural fragmentation benefits.”
“To power than innovation, DAMFI has introduced an energy solution as advanced as its products,” she said, adding that “The company’s CCHP (combined cooling, heating and power) system reuses energy.”
Osama Eladl, CEO DAMFI, said “It reduces costs and emissions and it is also eco-friendly. It provides a complete solution whereby exhaust and gas fumes are reused to produce steam and cooled water.”
“This makes it 30 percent efficient.”
The EBRD’s Green Economy Financing Facility funded this system, it boosts energy efficiency while reducing costs and emissions. It produces energy savings of $482,000 a year fuelling business growth and quality.
The CCHP system is a testament to DAMFI’s commitment to sustainability.
The system has reduced the company’s annual CO2emissions by 4,962 tons. A greener, more efficient energy system is powering Egypt’s only producer of sourdough bread.
