Egypt’s Salah Obayya to implement innovative photonic programs under UNESCO to achieve sustainable development in Africa
Egypt’s Salah Obayya, the head of the Center for Photonics and Smart Materials (CPSM) of Zewail city, will implement innovative photonic programs to achieve sustainable development in Africa in general and in Egypt in particular.
The programs – due to carried out under the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) – aims at gearing up a generation of African scientists and researchers in the fields of modern technology and Photonics.
The programs are also meant to empower African women in general and Egyptian women in particular.
Obayya will implement these programs under UNESCO which named him on Monday as the winner of the 2019 UNESCO Chair, a title for which scientists from 116 countries had vied. Obayya was selected for his outstanding scientific achievements.
UNESCO seeks to have effective and positive partnership with African universities and research centers to come up with innovative solutions to knotty problems.
