Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar) increased clean electricity generation from its operating projects by 38% to 40.2 terawatt-hours (TWh) in 2025, avoiding 19.5 million tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO₂e), according to its 13th annual sustainability report.

Capacity in operation or under construction rose approximately 40% to 45.8 gigawatts (GW), while the company’s total portfolio reached 66.5GW, including 20.7GW of secured projects or projects approaching final investment approval.

Expanding global clean energy portfolio:

The report included Saeta Yield and TERNA ENERGY within its reporting scope for the first time, expanding Masdar’s presence across Spain, Portugal, and Central and Southeastern Europe through wind and solar assets, alongside a pipeline that includes pumped hydro storage.

Major milestones in 2025 included the start of power generation at Germany’s 476MW Baltic Eagle offshore wind farm, the inauguration of the 250MW Nur Bukhara solar project in Uzbekistan, and securing financing for the 2GW Al Sadawi solar project in Saudi Arabia.

Masdar also broke ground on a large-scale clean energy project in Abu Dhabi combining 5.2GW of solar capacity with a 19GWh battery storage system. The project is designed to deliver 1GW of clean power around the clock.

Green bond attracts strong investor demand:

Masdar issued a $1 billion green bond in May following an updated Green Finance Framework in March. The issuance attracted $6.6 billion in orders, making it 6.6 times oversubscribed, with international investors accounting for 85% of purchases.

The issuance brought the total value of Masdar’s outstanding green bonds to $2.75 billion. The company retained investment-grade ratings of AA- from S&P, A1 from Moody’s and AA- from Fitch, while Moody’s reaffirmed its SQS1 (Excellent) rating for the updated framework.

Masdar’s Sustainable Fitch ESG score also rose to 74 out of 100 from 71.

Community initiatives, workforce development:

Masdar delivered more than 100 community initiatives across eight countries in 2025 and expanded biodiversity protection through 23 surveys, three conservation partnerships and AI-powered bird detection at the Zarafshan Wind Farm, where no fatalities among target species were recorded.

Women accounted for 30.2% of the workforce and 20% of management roles, while Emiratization reached approximately 46%, excluding international operations. Employees across the company’s operations also received 250,000 hours of health, safety and environmental training.

Targeting 100GW by 2030:

Masdar CEO Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi said the company’s growth reflects the UAE leadership’s long-term commitment to clean energy.

He said the company’s operating projects delivered reliable power and economic and environmental benefits in 2025, adding that Masdar’s focus is on building a competitive global energy business as it advances toward its target of 100GW of capacity by 2030.
