Hyundai Motor Company has supplied 11 electric buses for Bali’s first electric public transportation initiative, partnering with Indonesian bus body manufacturer Laksana as it seeks to expand its electric commercial vehicle business across the country.

The company presented the 8-meter COUNTY EV buses at the launch ceremony of the Bali Sustainable Transportation System Official Development Assistance (ODA) Project on Oct. 22. Hyundai supplied the electric bus platforms, while Laksana manufactured the vehicle bodies.

Supporting Bali’s green transport transition:

Led by the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), in cooperation with South Korea’s Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment and the Indonesian government, the project aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and support Indonesia’s climate action efforts while strengthening Bali’s position as a leading tourism destination.

The initiative follows a memorandum of understanding signed by the South Korean and Indonesian governments in 2025 to advance the transition to electric mobility in Bali. GGGI led a tender for the buses in the second half of 2025, selecting Hyundai based on its vehicle quality, after-sales service capabilities and experience in ODA transportation projects.

Expanding Hyundai’s e-bus operations:

The Bali deployment builds on Hyundai’s supply of 11 COUNTY EV buses for public transportation in Surabaya, Indonesia’s second-largest city, in November 2024.

The 20-seat buses supplied to Bali feature 128-kWh batteries and offer a driving range of more than 200 km on a full charge.

Hyundai will also support the initial deployment through a dedicated EV Bus Field Quality Assurance Program, including a local field quality monitoring center to track vehicle quality and driving performance as the buses enter service.

Targeting wider regional growth:

Hyundai aims to expand its electric vehicle business in Indonesia, targeting cities including Jakarta, Semarang, Surabaya and Medan, before building on its local presence to strengthen its position in commercial vehicle electrification across Asia-Pacific markets.

“We are pleased to contribute to Bali’s transition toward sustainable transportation through the supply of electric buses,” said Chul Youn Park, senior vice president and head of Hyundai Motor’s Global Commercial Vehicle and Light Commercial Vehicle Business Division.

The company will continue pursuing regional business opportunities by leveraging its products and after-sales support capabilities, Park added.
