Environment Ministry, EU launch beach clean-up campaign in Alex
A beach clean-up campaign was launched in Alexandria in collaboration with the European Union in Cairo, youths of Banlastic Egypt as well as school students.
This falls within the framework of directives of Environment Minister Yasmine Fouad to spread awareness about the dangers of plastic on the environment and maritime creatures.
Fouad said the activity is meant to sensitize people about the problem of solid waste, especially plastic waste, that reach the maritime environment.
About 32 beach clean-up campaigns were launched in Alexandria over the past two years, she said, noting that one of these campaigns broke the Guinness World Record for becoming the largest beach cleaning campaign.
The ministry is backing campaigns aiming to protect the environment from single-use plastic which causes grave harm to the environment.
The law no 202 of 2020 regulates waste management and includes a number of incentives to get rid of virgin plastic to protect the environment.
