Zewail City of Science and Technology student team (ZU12) won Shell’s 2019-2020 national “Imagine the Future” competition for the second year in a row.
The ZU12 is gearing up for representing Egypt in Shell’s international contest due to be held in August 2020.
The winners were announced during a video conference event.
The American University in Cairo (AUC 07) won the second position, while the Cairo University team (CU09) came in the third position.
The first award was worth EGP 25,000, the second EGP 15,000 and the third EGP 10,000.
The contest addressed the development of innovative solutions and future visions for bettering life in various Egyptian cities by 2050, especially in the fields of renewable energy, water and economy.
Chairman of Shell Egypt Khaled Qasem said the company is well aware of the importance of developing communities where it works.
He noted that the company has introduced several programs aiming at upskill youths to become future leaders in line with Egypt Vision 2030.
Egypt Shell is keen on proceeding with the competition despite the hard conditions the country was experiencing.
For her part, Social Investment Manager of Shell Egypt Nashwa Saleh about 127 student teams from 24 universities took part in the contest.
The winners have managed to draw up scenarios for upgrading life in Egyptian cities by 2050, she said.
