{"id":99675,"date":"2024-08-06T09:12:00","date_gmt":"2024-08-06T06:12:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.csregypt.com\/?p=99675"},"modified":"2024-08-05T21:23:07","modified_gmt":"2024-08-05T18:23:07","slug":"ebrd-allocates-20-m-loan-to-boost-smes-green-investments-in-egypt","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/csregypt.com\/en\/ebrd-allocates-20-m-loan-to-boost-smes-green-investments-in-egypt\/","title":{"rendered":"EBRD allocates $20 m loan to boost SMEs, green investments in Egypt"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) allocated a $20 million loan to boost small businesses and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.csregypt.com\/en\/eib-mobilized-e354-bn-in-green-investment-from-2021-to-2023\/\">green investments <\/a>in Egypt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The loan, which includes $ 3 million of concessional finance from the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.greenclimate.fund\/\">Green Climate Fund (GCF)<\/a>, will go to Cr\u00e9dit Agricole Egypt, one of Egypt\u2019s largest commercial banks and a subsidiary of Cr\u00e9dit Agricole Group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The loan will be used for on-lending to local small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and households.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The financing for Cr\u00e9dit Agricole Egypt will be supported by the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ebrd.com\/who-we-are\/structure-and-management\/shareholders\/european-union.html\">European Union (EU)<\/a>, with up to \u20ac2.05 million for incentive payments for successfully implemented and verified projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The EU will also provide a comprehensive technical assistance package of up to \u20ac6.2 million for all participating financial institutions and their clients, and for policy dialogue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Cr\u00e9dit Agricole Egypt is the fourth bank in Egypt to benefit from a loan under the GCF GEFF Regional Egypt Framework, the second Green Economy Financing Facility (GEFF II) in the country.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Fostering green growth and environmentally responsible business practices is an integral part of Cr\u00e9dit Agricole Group\u2019s strategy. It also aligns with the Group\u2019s commitment to supporting the energy transition by designing a green finance path that better serves the needs of its clients across the globe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Cr\u00e9dit Agricole Egypt will extend the EBRD\u2019s financing to private sub-borrowers, including individual households and SMEs operating in the residential, agribusiness, industrial, commercial and service sectors who are developing green, energy-efficiency, water-efficiency, renewable-energy and resource-efficiency projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p dir=\"ltr\">This will promote the use of high-performance technologies and services in the field of climate mitigation and climate adaptation activities. It will also help with the country\u2019s transition to a greener economy, in line with Egypt\u2019s Vision 2030.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p dir=\"ltr\">This is the first program of its kind in Egypt and in the wider southern and eastern Mediterranean (SEMED) region to have both a retail and a residential segment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Heike Harmgart, EBRD Managing Director for the SEMED region, said: \u201cWe are very happy to continue deploying GEFF II in Egypt with the EU and GCF\u2019s support to promote green investments, in line with our<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ebrd.com\/what-we-do\/get.html\">&nbsp;Green Economy Transition<\/a>&nbsp;approach. We are proud to strengthen our partnership with Cr\u00e9dit Agricole Egypt, supporting small businesses and households and increasing finance for greener projects.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Jean-Pierre Trinelle,&nbsp;Managing Director of Cr\u00e9dit Agricole Egypt, stated \u201cWe are proud of our cooperation with EBRD. In the face of climate challenges, we firmly believe that as a universal bank, we have an imperative duty to support our clients and society in their energy transition.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Trinelle added, &#8220;Utilizing these funds to assist our individual and entrepreneurial customers in successfully completing their energy efficiency and transition projects is core to our strategy.
