{"id":99544,"date":"2024-08-02T22:37:38","date_gmt":"2024-08-02T19:37:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.csregypt.com\/?p=99544"},"modified":"2024-08-02T22:37:46","modified_gmt":"2024-08-02T19:37:46","slug":"eus-ai-act-meant-to-foster-responsible-ai-development-deployment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/csregypt.com\/en\/eus-ai-act-meant-to-foster-responsible-ai-development-deployment\/","title":{"rendered":"EU\u2019s AI Act meant to foster responsible AI development, deployment"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The\u00a0European Artificial Intelligence Act (AI Act), entering into force, aims to\u00a0foster responsible artificial intelligence development and deployment in the EU.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.csregypt.com\/en\/google-report-ai-has-potential-to-mitigate-5-10-of-global-ghg-emissions-by-2030\/\">AI <\/a>Act\u00a0addresses potential risks to citizens\u2019 health, safety, and fundamental rights. It\u00a0provides developers and deployers\u00a0with\u00a0clear requirements and obligations\u00a0regarding\u00a0specific uses of AI\u00a0while reducing administrative and financial burdens for businesses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The AI Act introduces a uniform framework across all EU countries, based on a forward-looking definition of AI and a risk-based approach; including minimal risk, specific transparency risk, high risk, and unacceptable risk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p dir=\"ltr\">As for minimal risk, most AI systems such as spam filters and AI-enabled video games face no obligation under the AI Act, but companies can voluntarily adopt additional codes of conduct.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Concerning specific transparency risk, systems like chatbots must clearly inform users that they are interacting with a machine, while certain AI-generated content must be labelled as such.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p dir=\"ltr\">High-risk AI systems such as AI-based medical software or AI systems used for recruitment must comply with strict requirements, including risk-mitigation systems, high-quality of data sets, clear user information, human oversight, etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p dir=\"ltr\">As for unacceptable risk, for example, AI systems that allow \u201csocial scoring\u201d by governments or companies are considered a clear threat to people&#8217;s fundamental rights and are therefore banned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The EU aspires to be the global leader in safe AI. By developing a strong regulatory framework based on human rights and fundamental values, the EU can develop an AI ecosystem that benefits everyone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p dir=\"ltr\">This means\u00a0better healthcare,\u00a0safer and cleaner transport, and\u00a0improved public services for citizens. It brings\u00a0innovative products and services, particularly in energy, security, and healthcare, as well as\u00a0higher productivity\u00a0and\u00a0more efficient manufacturing for businesses,\u00a0while\u00a0governments\u00a0can benefit from\u00a0cheaper and more sustainable services\u00a0such as transport, energy and waste management.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Recently, the Commission has launched a consultation on a Code of Practice for providers of general-purpose Artificial Intelligence (GPAI) models. This Code, foreseen by the AI Act, will address critical areas such as transparency, copyright-related rules, and risk management.&nbsp;GPAI providers with operations in the EU, businesses, civil society representatives, rights holders and academic experts are invited to submit their views and findings, which will feed into the Commission&#8217;s upcoming draft of the Code of Practice on GPAI models.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The provisions on GPAI will enter into application in 12 months. The Commission expects to finalize the Code of Practice by April 2025.
