{"id":95041,"date":"2024-02-04T22:55:53","date_gmt":"2024-02-04T20:55:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.csregypt.com\/?p=95041"},"modified":"2024-02-04T22:55:55","modified_gmt":"2024-02-04T20:55:55","slug":"irac-expects-cancer-cases-to-hit-over-35-million-cancer-cases","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/csregypt.com\/en\/irac-expects-cancer-cases-to-hit-over-35-million-cancer-cases\/","title":{"rendered":"IRAC expects cancer cases to hit over 35 million cancer cases"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>WHO working with 75 governments to promote cancer care for all<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Cancer cases are expected to hit more than 35 million cases during 2050, up from the estimated 20 million in 2022, according to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/news\/item\/01-02-2024-global-cancer-burden-growing--amidst-mounting-need-for-services\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">latest figures<\/a>&nbsp;from the International Agency for Research on Cancer (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.iarc.who.int\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">IARC)<\/a>, a specialized branch of the UN World Health Organization (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.who.int\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">WHO<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The increase reflects both population ageing and growth, as well as changes to people\u2019s exposure to risk factors.\u00a0Tobacco, alcohol and obesity are key factors, along with air pollution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Richer countries are expected to have the greatest absolute increase in cancer, with an additional 4.8 million new cases predicted in 2050.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p dir=\"ltr\">However,\u00a0low and middle-income countries should see a higher proportional increase\u00a0in cancer, while mortality is projected to almost double.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The estimates from the IARC\u2019s&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/gco.iarc.fr\/en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Global Cancer Observatory<\/a>&nbsp;are based on the best sources of data available from 185 countries and covers 36 different forms of cancer.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p dir=\"ltr\">They were published alongside a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.csregypt.com\/en\/who-urges-action-to-control-e-cigarettes-to-protect-children\/\">WHO <\/a>survey from 115 countries which showed that the majority do not adequately finance priority cancer and palliative care services as part of universal health coverage.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The IARC estimates &#8211; issued ahead of World Cancer Day on 4 February &#8211; also revealed striking inequalities, particularly in breast cancer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p dir=\"ltr\">One in 12 women in richer countries will be diagnosed with the disease in their lifetime and one in 71 will die of it, the agency said. \u00a0However, although only one in 27 women in poorer countries will receive a positive breast cancer diagnosis,\u00a0one in 48 will die.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p dir=\"ltr\">These women \u201care at a much higher risk of dying of the disease due to late diagnosis and inadequate access to quality treatment,\u201d said Dr. Isabelle Soerjomataram, Deputy Head of the Cancer Surveillance Branch at IARC.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The WHO survey also revealed significant global inequities in cancer services.
