{"id":94010,"date":"2023-12-26T22:59:11","date_gmt":"2023-12-26T20:59:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.csregypt.com\/?p=94010"},"modified":"2023-12-26T23:04:52","modified_gmt":"2023-12-26T21:04:52","slug":"american-express-allocates-12-75-m-grants-for-small-businesses-over-climate-related-challenges","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/csregypt.com\/en\/american-express-allocates-12-75-m-grants-for-small-businesses-over-climate-related-challenges\/","title":{"rendered":"American Express allocates $12.75 m grants for small businesses over climate-related challenges"},"content":{"rendered":"<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">American Express has announced allocating $12.75 million in grants to five non-profit organizations\u00a0<u>as it launches a new initiative\u00a0<\/u>to support <a href=\"https:\/\/www.csregypt.com\/en\/mastercard-citi-engage-in-new-partnership-to-support-small-businesses-sustainability\/\">small businesses<\/a> prepare for and rebuild stronger in the aftermath of natural disasters and climate events.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">The grantees include the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation, Resilient Cities Catalyst, Local Initiatives Support Corporation, Urban Sustainability Directors Network and<a href=\"https:\/\/www.brookes.ac.uk\/\"> Oxford Brookes University<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">\u201cThis initiative builds on our long history of backing small businesses as we partner with non-profit organizations to help vulnerable small businesses recover from natural disasters and develop sustainable solutions to make them more climate resilient,\u201d said Jennifer Skyler, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer. \u201cLaunching in 11 cities around the world, our goal is to expand the global reach of this initiative to enable even more small businesses rebuild and emerge stronger from climate-related events and grow sustainably in the years to come.\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">According to a statistic from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation, an estimated 25% of small businesses do not reopen after a local disaster in the United States. As part of its new initiative, American Express will help small businesses better navigate climate-related challenges and prepare for future events by focusing on three key areas; Recover Stronger, Build Resilience and \u202fgrow sustainably.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Recover Stronger<\/strong><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">In collaboration with the\u00a0<strong>U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation<\/strong>, American Express will help launch a natural disaster recovery and preparedness fund that will provide 2,000-3,000 small businesses impacted by natural disasters with both short-term flexible and long-term recovery funding.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Build Resilience<\/strong><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">In addition to recovery efforts, the initiative will assist small businesses plan for natural disasters before they arise by helping establish climate-resilient infrastructure and preventative actions to minimize risk to their businesses:<\/p>\n<ul dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<li><strong>Resilient Cities Catalyst<\/strong>\u00a0will support approximately 500 small businesses across 13 neighborhoods design and deliver climate resiliency projects through the Small Business Climate Resilience Program. Through municipal and small business partnerships, the program will support innovative design and delivery of short-term and long-term resilience interventions.<\/li>\n<li>Together with the\u00a0<strong>Local Initiatives Support Corporation<\/strong>, American Express will help nearly 250 businesses develop and implement preparedness plans and provide 1,000 more businesses access to technical assistance on sustainability projects.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Grow Sustainably\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">To promote a sustainable future, our partnerships will provide technical assistance and training for small businesses to help develop environmental sustainability targets, initiatives and solutions:<\/p>\n<ul dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<li>American Express also teamed up with the\u00a0Urban Sustainability Directors Network for rooftop solar installations for up to 45 small businesses and share best practices for ongoing small business support across a network of local governments.<\/li>\n<li>The partnership between American Express and\u00a0<strong>Oxford Brookes University<\/strong>\u00a0in the U.K. aims to educate and mentor approximately 500 small business owners on sustainability basics and action planning.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>American Express has announced allocating $12.75 million in grants to five non-profit organizations\u00a0as it launches a new initiative\u00a0to support small businesses prepare for and rebuild stronger in the aftermath of natural disasters and climate events.
